New Delhi: A retired Brigadier, VK Joshi, was shot dead during his morning walk in the Rajpur Police Station area of Dehradun on Monday. The incident took place around 6:45 am to 7 am near Tula Apartments in Johri village, under Rajpur police station area in Dehradun, police said.
According to Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police Pramendra Dobhal, the control room received a call around 6.50 a.m. about a firing incident during a road rage in the Rajpur police station area. During the firing the retired Brigadier V.K. Joshi was hit by a stray bullet while he was on a walk near Johri village, he was injured and was taken to the hospital, where he was found dead, He said.
The police have reached the spot and are currently investigating the incident. Police are examining CCTV footage and have taken action against those involved in the road rage clash that led to the tragic death.
In a preliminary investigation, “we investigated the CCTV footage of a gen Z pub near the incident, it came to light that on the night of March 29, there was a fight between two parties over more money in the bill, and the club people had beaten the other party and this incident happened in retaliation for that. Both parties have been held responsible for this. Action will be taken against whoever is directly or indirectly involved in this,Dobhal said.
He further stated “We have arrested 4 people, including the club owner Sandeep, and from the other party, a person Aditya Chaudhary has also been arrested, and his 3 associates are absconding; we will catch them soon too. Both vehicles involved in the incident are in police custody. The club has been sealed.
An eyewitness said, “During a morning walk, I saw an incident, and on reaching the spot, the people who were with the Brigadier said that he had been shot. It was said that people in 2 vehicles were firing at each other.”
Dobhal said the other accused fled the scene after abandoning their car at some distance. An FIR has been registered, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those involved
