Healing the Healers Conference in Islamabad Calls for Healthcare Reforms

ISLAMABAD: The Al-Falah Foundation organized the Healing the Healers conference in Islamabad to address the growing challenges faced by healthcare professionals, including workplace stress, burnout, and demanding working conditions.

Chief Guest Ameer Abdul Qadeer Awan Al-Sheikh and the State Minister for Health attended the event, along with a large number of professors, medical educators, deans, and principals from various medical institutions.

The conference highlighted excessive duty hours, unclear professional responsibilities, political and bureaucratic interference, and inadequate institutional support as key challenges affecting healthcare workers.

Speakers emphasized that protecting healthcare professionals is a shared responsibility and is essential for ensuring patient safety, quality healthcare, and public trust.

The conference’s recommendations included improved working conditions, adequate staffing, transparent duty rosters, safe night-duty arrangements, and the establishment of hospital wellbeing committees.

The declaration also called for public awareness campaigns to promote respect for healthcare workers, responsible media reporting, and the formation of a multi-stakeholder working group to monitor progress on the proposed reforms.

The conference concluded with a call for collective action to ensure the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of healthcare professionals across Pakistan.
