After months of partial disruption, India Post has officially resumed all categories of international postal services to the United States, introducing a new “duty-paid” system designed to ensure quicker customs clearance and cost-effective delivery.
According to a report by The Times of India, the newly implemented system allows customs duties to be pre-paid at the time of dispatch from India, significantly reducing delays at U.S. entry points. This step is expected to streamline international logistics, benefitting exporters, e-commerce operators, and the vast Indian diaspora in the U.S.
Officials at India Post said the resumption marks an important milestone in the department’s digital modernization and global competitiveness initiative. The new system aligns with international postal reforms aimed at simplifying cross-border trade and consumer deliveries.
Industry experts believe the move will give a substantial boost to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) engaged in online exports, particularly in the handicraft, apparel, and technology accessory sectors, which rely heavily on affordable postal channels.
The restoration of full postal connectivity with the U.S. also underscores India’s growing role in global supply chain integration and efforts to enhance the reliability of its state-run logistics infrastructure.
