Islamabad – The Overseas Representative Office (ORO) of Yunnan Commerce, in partnership with the Yunnan Provincial People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, has successfully implemented the “Yunnan Pani” project to address water scarcity in rural areas of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
Solar-Powered Water Systems: A Lifeline for Rural Pakistan
Launched in 2022 under the “Yunnan Hand in Hand Program,” the initiative has installed 13 solar-powered water systems, including filtration units and storage tanks, in areas such as Rawat, Sangjani, Tarnol, Sarai Kharboza, and Jhangi Syedaan. These systems now provide safe drinking water to thousands of residents.
China-Pakistan Friendship Boosts Rural Development with Solar-Powered Water Systems
In 2024 alone, three systems have been installed, while five were added in 2023 and five in 2022. The program engages local masajid and community members through “Yunnan Pani Committees” to ensure maintenance, security, and sustainability of the facilities.
Mr. Li Ping, Director of Yunnan Commerce in Pakistan, reaffirmed Yunnan province’s commitment to expanding social impact projects in Pakistan, enhancing grassroots development efforts.
