The water level at River Chenab has increased causing flood in nearby areas after India released millions cusecs water without prior information. In an act of water terrorism, Chenab, Sutlej and Ravi rivers receiving high water flows after incessant rain in northern India. Many cities in Punjab are expected to receive spells of heavy rain while Chenab and Ravi rivers flooded as an incessant downpour in India’s northern states has increased the water discharge towards downstream areas. Approximately 15km west of the international border, as authorities expect high water flows in Ravi river. India is bound to inform Pakistan as per the agreement. Meanwhile, dozens of villages submerged in Pasrur after India have released flood water in Nullah Dek. The release of flood water from the neighboring country has caused high level flood in Nullah Dek and dozens of villages have submerged and standing crops on hundreds of acres drowned. The land link of 12 villages of Union Council Takhtpur has been severed due to flooding, local sources said. Moreover, paddy, barley and corn crops standing at hundreds of acres of farmland have also drowned under the water. The local people have been working on self-help basis to address the emergency situation as concerned government officials yet to awake to give response to the situation. India is using water as an instrument of war, converting grain producing land of neighboring countries into deserts through inundation and trickling of water. Indian strategy to use potent weapon against Pakistan is very lethal and two pronged. Firstly, it is accumulating water by building dams on the rivers that flow into Pakistan. Secondly, it diverts river-courses during monsoons to release too much water towards Pakistan causing floods and destruction. India has constructed 4 large and 16 small dams on River Jhelum, a total of 62 dams are to be built on the rivers Chenab and Jhelum. India is also constructing a large dam in Kargil on River Indus which will block 45% flow of water to Pakistan. Violation of Indus Basin Treaty is in line with India’s national policy of backtracking from its pledges and breaking international agreements and defying the UN. India intends to complete its water denial plan to Pakistan as soon as possible, after which Pakistan will get deprived of its legitimate share of water. Jeff Nesbit, author and Executive Director of Non-profit Climate Communication Organization ‘Climate Nexus’ said, “Any country with nuclear weapons, if they’re backed into a corner because they have no water – that’s really dangerous.”
