New Delhi: Intelligence agencies have issued a security alert for Delhi and Uttarakhand after an alleged threat warning that “Khalistani terrorists could target key locations in the coming days. The alert has prompted both states to tighten security at sensitive sites and launch an investigation into the email’s origin,” Police said.
The alert warns of possible attacks on temples in Delhi and Uttarakhand. Government establishments, railway stations and police installations also named as potential targets. The threat was conveyed through an email that reportedly contains references to several temples, government offices and political leaders as possible targets.
Delhi Police confirmed they are aware of the email but declined to share further details, citing the ongoing investigation.
“Following the alert, the Uttarakhand Police, intelligence agencies and the Delhi Police have been placed on heightened vigil, with security arrangements at sensitive locations being reviewed and intensified as a precautionary measure”, Police said.
Delhi Police has launched a probe to trace the origin of the email and determine whether the threat is genuine or a hoax, with investigators examining technical evidence including the email’s origin, digital trail and communication details. Cyber experts and intelligence officials are working jointly to identify the sender and establish possible links to known extremist groups, According to police. So far no arrests or confirmed organizational links have been announced.
Officials have stressed that the alert remains precautionary in nature, with the email’s authenticity still under verification, and have asked the public to stay alert without panicking.
Pattern of Recent Alerts
This is not the first such warning this year. similar alert was issued in January, around Republic Day, warning of a possible attempt by proscribed Khalistani outfits and Bangladesh-based terror organizations to target New Delhi and other cities. In February, another alert followed inputs warning of a possible terror threat near the Red Fort, terrorists may target a temple in the Chandni Chowk area, while key religious sites in the area remained on the radar of the Pakistan-based outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba.
The latest alert also comes close on the heels of a separate counterterrorism action in Rajasthan. the heightened alert follows the Rajasthan Anti-Terrorist Squad’s recent arrest of a woman, identified as Babita Dhakad alias Khadija, over alleged contact with members of the Pakistan-based outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed. The accused, a resident of Gangapur City who had been living in Jaipur, was taken into custody following intelligence inputs pointing to her alleged links with anti-national elements.
Security Measures
In response to the alert, “Delhi and Uttarakhand police forces have intensified surveillance and deployed quick reaction teams at major transit hubs, alongside a comprehensive investigation to trace the digital footprint and credibility of the email”, Sources in Intelligence agencies said.Authorities have advised citizens to remain alert and immediately report any suspicious person, object or activity to the nearest police station or emergency authorities.
As of this report, no casualties or confirmed attack have been linked to the threat, and officials have not verified the email’s credibility or established any organizational link to the message. Investigations by Police and intelligence agencies remain ongoing.
