New Delhi: South Korean President Lee Jae Myung will pay a three-day State Visit to India from April 19 to 21, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a press release on Thursday.
President Lee, accompanied by First Lady Kim Hea Kyung and a high-level delegation of ministers, senior officials and business leaders, will undertake his first visit to India since assuming office. The visit aims to further strengthen the Special Strategic Partnership between the two nations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Lee are expected to hold bilateral talks on Monday, April 20. The two leaders had previously met on the sidelines of the G7 and G20 summits last year.
According to the MEA, the discussions will focus on enhancing cooperation in shipbuilding, trade and investments, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, critical and emerging technologies, people-to-people ties and cultural exchanges. The leaders will also exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.
“Both leaders are expected to hold discussions on strengthening bilateral cooperation across a wide spectrum of areas,” the MEA said in a statement.
Prime Minister Modi will host a lunch in honour of the visiting South Korean President. President Droupadi Murmu will receive President Lee and host a banquet in his honour. External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will also call on the South Korean President during the visit.
The MEA underlined the deep roots of the partnership, stating, “India and South Korea share a multifaceted partnership rooted in ancient civilisational ties and shared values of democracy and rule of law. The visit of President Lee underscores the shared aspiration of both countries to further strengthen the existing areas of cooperation while expanding collaboration in new and emerging areas of mutual interest.”
Economic ties between the two countries have grown significantly since the implementation of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in 2010. Bilateral trade stood at USD 25.1 billion in 2024, while it reached USD 21.5 billion between January and October 2025. India’s major exports to South Korea include aluminium, iron, steel and cereals.
South Korea remains the 15th largest FDI investor in India, with investments touching USD 929 million in 2024, largely in the manufacturing sector.
The upcoming visit is seen as an opportunity to build on these foundations, particularly in high-tech sectors and maritime cooperation, at a time when both countries are looking to diversify supply chains and deepen strategic engagement in the Indo-Pacific region.
