In a rare and blunt public message, India’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) has called on the defence manufacturing ecosystem to pair profits with patriotism.
“Show nationalism and patriotism even in your profit-driven work,” the CDS said, urging private and public-sector companies to be transparent about their true capabilities.
He issued a clear warning against over-promising and under-delivering:
“Be honest about what you can actually build.
If you sign a contract and fail to deliver on time, the nation loses critical capability.”
The CDS emphasised that delayed platforms, incomplete systems, and exaggerated claims directly weaken operational readiness — especially at a time when India faces heightened threats on multiple fronts.
His tone makes one thing unmistakable:
India’s military leadership is losing patience with defence vendors who chase contracts without the capacity to meet deadlines.
