RAWALPINDI, Pakistan – A high-level delegation led by the Canadian High Commissioner to Pakistan visited the Meesaq Center at the Police Station Cantt in Rawalpindi today.
The delegation, which also included Director General National Police Bureau Dr. Ihsan Sadiq, was received by City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi Syed Khalid Hamdani and other senior officers.
The visit focused on understanding the Meesaq Center’s role in protecting the rights of minorities and promoting interfaith harmony in the region. CPO Hamdani briefed the delegation on the facilities and services offered by the center, which include legal aid, counseling, and mediation for minority communities. He emphasized that protecting minority rights is a top priority for the police force in Rawalpindi.
The Canadian delegation commended the Punjab government’s initiative to establish Meesaq Centers. They saw it as a positive step towards ensuring the safety and well-being of minority communities. Dr. Ihsan Sadiq, Director General National Police Bureau, also highlighted the importance of interfaith collaboration in maintaining peace and order.
The Meesaq Center initiative has been lauded by human rights groups for its commitment to addressing the concerns of minority communities. This visit by the Canadian delegation signifies growing international recognition of the program’s potential to promote social cohesion in Pakistan.
Sources within the police department have indicated that further collaboration between the Punjab government and international partners on initiatives like the Meesaq Centers is being explored.
