TAXILA: The district health authorities on Friday started an investigation into the circumstances that led up to the death of a teenage girl, who died of dengue at a government hospital on Thursday.
District Health Officer Dr Ibadat Hussein told media that a technical audit of a private hospital, where Noreen Bibi was taken for treatment before being taken to the government hospital, was also started.
He said that a team will also check records of the deceased girl’s treatment during her stay at the private hospital.
A case against the management of the hospital will be referred to the health care commission if found guilty of improper treatment, he added.
Dr Hussein denied claims that Noreen had died of the Congo virus and said that the rumour which had spread via the media was baseless as the girl’s blood report had come negative for the Congo virus.
Meanwhile, the health authorities have also removed Mohammad Rizwan as the in-charge of the anti-dengue team in Hassanabdal and appointed Anwar Shamin as the new in-charge.
Deputy District Officer (health) Dr Saeed Akhtar told NNP that the health authorities are monitoring the situation and that the test results of 10 of the deceased girl’s family members, including her mother and step mother, came back negative for dengue.
He said the rest of the family were also not showing dengue symptoms.
Dr Akhtar added that a meeting of lady health workers and anti-polio teams was called Thursday evening and that they were asked to carry out campaigns in high risk areas and to carry out more checks inside houses in order to avoid the spread of dengue in the area.
