New Delhi: The Government of India denied social media claims that a massive fire broke out at a joint India-Israel defence facility in Delhi. The Ministry of External Affairs has issued a fake news alert. These false posts came amid rising tensions due to the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict.
Several misleading posts on platforms like X claimed that a joint India-Israel defence facility in Delhi was attacked. They said a big fire erupted there, killing several workers from both India and Israel. Some posts even alleged that around 50 workers, including Indians and Israelis, may have died in the incident.
A post shared by Zabihullah Muhajir on X claimed “According to reports, a joint Indian and Israeli drone manufacturing center in India’s Delhi has been attacked, resulting in an explosion and fire. Sources say that in this incident, around 50 workers, including Indians and Israelis, may have been killed.”
Another verified X account shared a video showing thick smoke and flames to support the claim, saying that Indian media was blaming supporters of Iran in India for the incident.
“A massive fire broke out in a joint India-Israel defense facility in Delhi, resulting in the deaths of several workers from both countries. Indian media is blaming supporters of Iran in India”, Verified user ‘World Now’ wrote in a post on X.
However, the Fact Check Unit of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has clearly debunked these claims. The MEA called them false and baseless. It urged people to stay alert and not share such misinformation on social media.
The MEA said “This is Fake News. Please stay alert against such false and baseless claims on social media”
In reality, the video being shared is from a different event. It shows a massive fire that broke out at Machhli Mandi (fish market) in Uttam Nagar area of Delhi on March 11. The fire started late at night in Matiala village when vendors were closing their stalls. The Delhi Fire Service got the call around 11:50 pm and sent many fire engines to the spot.
The flames spread quickly to nearby slums because of closely built houses. Around 23 fire engines worked for hours to control the blaze, which was brought under control early the next morning. The fire damaged about 300 to 400 slum dwellings, leaving many families homeless. There were no casualties or deaths reported in this fire. The concerned department is now investigating the cause.
No such attack or fire happened at any India-Israel joint defence facility in Delhi. The government has warned against believing unverified claims during sensitive times like the current global tensions.
People should check facts from official sources before sharing anything online to avoid spreading panic or wrong information, MEA said.
