“Amnesty International Calls Out Human Rights Abuses in IIOJK; Mr. Fahim Kiyani and Ms. Astrid Laich Speak Out at Birmingham Press Conference!”

Amnesty International UK and other officials from Amnesty International have been at the forefront of defending human rights in the United Kingdom and around the world for decades. Through advocacy, campaigning, and research, Amnesty International UK has sought to protect and uphold the human rights of people from all walks of life. As we continue to fight for justice and freedom around the world, it is important to recognize the work that Amnesty International UK and other officials have done to promote these values. In this blog, we will explore the stories of the people and the work of Amnesty International that have made an impact in the United Kingdom and the world at large.

Human rights are at the forefront of minds across the globe. The UK’s Tehreek e Kashmir, alongside Amnesty International’s Bournville branch, have joined forces to host a press briefing in Birmingham. This meeting aims to raise awareness of the ongoing demolition/bulldozing of houses in the Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, and the other severe human rights violations taking place in the region.

It was a day on 15 March 2023, when Mr. Fahim Kiyani, President of Tehreek e Kashmir (UK), had a press briefing along with Ms. Astrid Laich, Secretary of the Bournville branch of Amnesty International (UK), and other officials of Amnesty International at Birmingham.

The illustrious gathering of officials discussed the issues plaguing the Indian-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). In particular, the grave human rights violations that are taking place in the region were discussed. According to the officials of Amnesty International, the institution has recently documented the demolition of residential houses in IIOJK. This demolition happened without any due process or legal justification. This has been taking place since the region was stripped of its autonomy and special constitutional status in August 2019.

The officials of Amnesty International expressed that it was highly disheartening to see the blatant human rights violations in IIOJK. This has included restrictions on freedom of expression, unlawful arrests, extra-judicial detentions and torture of political activists, widespread internet shutdowns, and intense surveillance.

Amnesty International has raised its voice in condemning these human rights violations and has continued to work for the protection of rights and justice for the people of the region. Furthermore, Amnesty International has constantly been working with civil society organizations in IIOJK to ensure access to justice and remedies for the victims.

The stern views and concerns of Amnesty International UK will always be echoed by millions of people who are raising their voices demanding justice and an end to human rights violations in IIOJK. We can only hope and pray that justice prevails and the human rights violations in IIOJK come to an end.
