Kashmiri Delegation Emerges at 52nd UNHRC Session: Lights Up Path to Peace!

A Kashmiri delegation composed of 10 members hailing from both sides of the LoC will attend the 52nd session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. Led by Altaf Hussain Wani, Chairman of the Kashmir Institute of International Relations, the delegation includes Syed Faiz Naqashbandi, Sardar Amjad Yousaf Khan, Shamim Shawl, Hassan Al Ban, Advocate Parvez Shah, Dr. Waleed Rasool, Dr. Shagufta Ashraf, Dr. Saira Shah and Mrs Naylia Altaf Kayani. Upon arrival, they will be engaging in important conversations with the UNHRC high commissioner, special rapporteurs, diplomats and representatives of international NGOs.

The primary goal of the session is to bring attention to the assaults on human rights in Indian-held Kashmir, especially the augmenting occurrences of extrajudicial killings, property demolitions, suppression of dissent, interference with the right to education and religious freedom, as well as the desperate condition of Kashmiri prisoners. The mission will also reveal India’s malicious plans to alter the demographics of the region, in addition to its anti-Kashmir attempts to diminish the major community’s involvement in decision-making and reduce their political representation in the legislature by allowing voting rights to non-Kashmiris.

Additionally, the visiting dignitaries will address the existing human rights issues, land seizing, and demolitions of properties.
