LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has directed the authorities to speedup implementation on “Khadim-e-Punjab Ujala Programme” under which 20 thousands schools are being converted on solar system across the province. Addressing a meeting in Lahore via video link, the Chief Minister said renowned companies are working day and night for the implementation of this programme.
Provincial Minister for Education Rana Mashhud Ahmed Khan, Secretaries School, Energy, Information and Related officials attended the meeting. The Chief Minister directed the concerned officials to prepare effective mechanism for the monitoring of Khadim-e-Punjab Ujala Programme. He also directed them to complete the project by the end of this year.
Shahbaz Sharif said the project is being started from the schools of Southern Punjab where 10,800 schools are being brightened by the solar energy and it will be expanded in phases across the province. The chief minister said 20,000 schools will be provided solar panels under this programme and said that resources worth billions of rupees has been provided for the purpose. He said that lakhs of students and teachers will benefit from this programme and maintained that conversion of schools on solar energy is a unique project in the history of Pakistan.
He hoped that provision of solar panels to schools, where electricity is unavailable, will help improve educational environment of the school and added that provision of resources for educating the youth is a beneficial investment. The Punjab government has taken revolutionary steps for promotion of education, he added.
