Police officer suspended for improper inquiry into fraud case

TAXILA: A police officer was suspended on Monday for conducting an improper investigation in a case involving a number of Canadian nationals of Pakistani origin who allegedly swindled an engineer out of money which they told him will be invested in a business.

City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi also issued a show cause notice to the officer and ordered the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations to hold an inquiry against the officer who is also facing allegations of receiving Rs30 million in bribes from the accused for dropping charges against them during the investigation of the case.

CPO Abbasi suspended Sub-inspector Ali of Wah Cantt police station for holding an improper investigation in a fraud case involving a Canadian family members of which are accused of swindling a Saudi based engineer, Sheikh Mohammad Nahim, of millions of rupees.

The Wah Cant Police lodged a case against Abdul Samad on April 24 along with his brother Shahid Iqbal, father Irshad Khan and sister-in-law Lubna Shahid under section 406 for punishment for criminal breach of trust on the complaint of the victim, Sheikh Nahim. The victim is settled in Saudi Arabia and is an engineer by profession.

Shahid Iqbal was arrested by the police and was sent to jail by a court after his bail application was cancelled.

In his complaint tabled before the CPO in an open court, Sheikh Nahim said he met with Abdul Samad in an airport lounge and that the accused told him his family runs businesses in Canada and Dubai. He said Samad also introduced him to his brother Shahid Iqbal who is said to have proposed to Sheikh Nahim to invest in the business to earn a huge profit.

The victim said he also visited Shahid Iqbal in Dubai in April 2007 where he invested UAE Dirham 1.5 million in a property business.

The family then suggested Sheikh buy a gas station in Canada for US $4.2 million, the victim said. He told the CPO he paid this amount to Shahid Iqbal’s wife and his father at their residence in Gulistan Colony in Wah Cantt in the presence of witnesses Mohammad Maskin and Sanju Malik, who are friends of Shahid’s.

The victim said the family then took the money and disappeared.

He told the CPO that police investigators were not cooperating with him and that Sub-inspector Ali had received Rs30 million in bribes from Shahid in return for giving him a clean chit. In his complaint, the victim said Sub-inspector Ali declared Shahid innocent in the investigation report even though his bail was cancelled by a court and that the police officer is also protecting the other accused in the case.

Sheikh Nahim said seven fraud cases were registered against Shahid and the other accused in Islamabad and Chakwal and asked the CPO to take action against the police official.

The CPO suspended the sub-inspector and tasked the SSP Operations with probing into the matter.

When contacted, Sub-inspector Ali denied the allegations against him while Sheikh Nahim told newsmen he will move applications against the family in the Canadian Embassy in Islamabad as well.

PML-N MPA PP-04 de-seated for holding fake degree

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday disqualified Raja Shaukat Aziz Bhatti, a member of the Punjab Assembly (MPA), for holding a fake degree.

Bhatti was the ruling PML-N’s MPA from Rawalpindi’s PP-04 constituency.

The said MPA has been facing proceedings against him since his election from the constituency in 2008. Multiple arrest warrants had been issued against him since.

Major retired Iftikhar Kiani had filed an application with the ECP seeking Bhatti’s disqualification and fresh by-elections in the constituency.

Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Raza observed that the case was being heard since before he came to office.

“This case has went on for so long … the respondent has changed his counsels multiple times and has questioned our jurisdiction,” he maintained.

A five-member commission headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Raza announced the short order denotifying the MPA.

Barrister Latif Khosa had appeared on behalf of the applicant and said the respondent had approached a high court, which refused to provide him relief by staying ECP from announcing its order.

Earlier, the Election Commission had declared Shaukat Bhatti’s graduation degree fake and ordered criminal proceedings against him. Bhatti was accused of submitting the degree of another person with the same name. However, he had challenged the ECP’s decision in superior courts.

Retired MI5 Agent Confesses On Deathbed: ‘I Killed Princess Diana’

An 80-year-old retired MI5 agent, John Hopkins, has made a series of astonishing confessions since he was released from hospital in London on Wednesday and told he has weeks to live. Hopkins claims to have been involved in 23 assassinations for the British intelligence agency between 1973 and 1999, including Princess Diana.

Mr. Hopkins, who worked for M15 for 38 years as an operative, claims he was often used as an hitman by the agency, to discreetly assassinate individuals considered a threat to the domestic security of the United Kingdom.

Trained as both a mechanical engineer and munitions expert, Mr. Hopkins claims he also has extensive experience of less conventional methods of inflicting death and destruction, including chemicals and poisons.

The 80-year-old British man claims he was involved with MI5 assassinations between June 1973 and December 1999, during a period he says “the MI5 operated with less external oversight.” Hopkins says he was part of a cell of seven operatives who were trusted to carry out political assassinations across the UK. Most victims were politicians, activists, journalists and union leaders.

Mr. Hopkins says Princess Diana is unique among his victims, as she is the only female he ever assassinated, as well as the only Royal. She is also the only victim that the Royal Family themselves ordered to be taken out.

He claims to feel “ambivalent” about Princess Diana’s death. On the one hand, Diana was “a beautiful, kind-hearted woman” who did not deserve to have her life cut short. But according to Mr. Hopkins, she was also placing the British Crown at risk:

She knew too many Royal secrets. She had a huge grudge and she was going to go public with all sorts of wild claims. My boss told me she had to die – he’d received orders directly from Prince Philip – and we had to make it look like an accident. I’d never killed a woman before, much less a princess, but I obeyed orders. I did it for Queen and country.”

The next stage of the high-level conspiracy involved the media, under tight Palace control, talking to each other to “square their stories, make sure everybody was on the same page. It was a well run operation.”

British journalists all answer to editors who answer to oligarchs who all want knighthoods from the crime family at Buckingham Palace. There is no free press in Britain,” said Mr. Hopkins.

“We got away with murder.”

The 80-year-old, spending his final weeks at home, said he expects to be taken into custody following his admissions, but says “I can’t say that I care an awful lot.” Hopkins explained that any investigation into the affair would “take forever” and be “very complicated” because there are few written records around secret MI5 activities and “most of my colleagues are already dead“.

The most important witness in the case, Mr. Hopkin’s boss, died of a heart attack in “the early 2000s” and the alleged ringleader, Prince Philip, “will never be charged with anything, of course

If Prince Philip ever let himself be analyzed by a psychiatrist I’m sure he’d be diagnosed a psychopath. He has all the dark triad traits.”

Asked why he didn’t refuse the job, or expose the plot at the time, he explained “MI5 agents swear allegiance to the Crown, we can’t be impartial when it comes to the Royal family. At best I would have been done for treason, at worst Philip would have designed a grisly fate for me.
